Single Rope Technique (SRT) Intermediate Day

This 1-day training course follows on from our SRT Introduction Day course, however you don’t need to have attended that specific course to attend this one. The SRT Intermediate day is aimed at those with basic Single Rope Technique (SRT) skills who are looking to progress onto more challenging rope manoeuvres and improve their overall technique. All equipment can be provided.

Overview

The SRT Intermediate / Improvers day will usually take place at a surface facility and will be run by a holder of the Cave Instructor Certificate, which is the UK’s highest caving qualification. The course is designed for people with some SRT experience already, even if just the basics of going up and down pitches independently. It can be attended by anyone with suitable fitness and a desire to improve their techniques or learn more skills for rope pitches in caves and mines. The pace of the course will be tailored to the participants, but where appropriate and possible, the contents will include;

  • Deviations
  • Rebelays (including free-hanging ones)
  • Knot passing
  • Changing from up>down and down>up
  • Changing from one rope over to another
  • Basic knots and rigging theory.

This workshop is for more involved SRT pitches with rebelays, deviations or other complications. Advanced rigging and rescue training days are also available as private bookings.

What’s Included in the SRT Intermediate Day?

The workshop price includes the provision of all ropes and SRT equipment that is needed. Participants would normally be expected to have their own equipment and are welcome to use it on this course, but all personal equipment must be in a safe and well-maintained condition and be within the manufacturer’s recommended lifespan. SRT kits can be provided if needed, but please let us know at the time of booking if you need one.
We recommend the following retailers for those looking to purchase their own SRT equipment: Starless River & Inglesport.

A set of training notes will be provided to each participant.

Participants will need to bring their own food and drink, plus have appropriate clothing and equipment for the prevailing weather. A short drive in convoy after meeting the trainer may be needed for some courses. Full joining instructions will be provided to anyone who books onto a course.
