This half day training course will give outdoor instructors an understanding of both the method and reasoning behind conducting pre-use inspections on equipment. This is aimed at all activity centre and outdoor business staff, freelancers, or anyone delivering activities using PPE in the outdoor industry. There will be examples of common damage on equipment regularly used in the outdoor sector and plenty of hands-on inspecting.
Overview
The course will have both a theory and practical element, with participants shown how to conduct the pre-use check on common PPE and given example items to inspect themselves. The course is designed to be run at a centre or business for their staff, and all resources are provided by the trainer. A suitable space with tables and seating will be needed. The exact equipment types used on the course will vary, but will include;
- Sit harnesses
- Helmets
- Connectors
- Ropes
- Other common items of outdoor activity centre complex PPE
- Any specifically requested items e.g. buoyancy aids
The course will cover:
- The importance of competence
- Workplace PPE law
- Inspection structure in an outdoor business
- Pre-Use Inspection method
- Quarantine systems
- Common wear and damage
- Practical inspection of lots of group PPE common to the outdoor industry

What’s Included
The course fee includes everything that is needed. Over 50 items of common outdoor industry PPE are available to inspect during the training, as well as many demo items.
A training handout will be provided to each participant.
Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance, valid for 3 years.
Price
This course is run on a ratio of 1 trainer to 8 participants.
A half day session with up to 8 participants costs £250.00.
A full day with 2 repeat sessions to accommodate up to a total of 16 participants is £350.00.
