Cavers Kit Checks workshop (sport & recreation)

This half-day cavers kit checks workshop is aimed at recreational cavers and mine explorers and will teach the methods for checking your own safety equipment. There will be advice on thresholds for retiring kit and examples of common damage, as well as plenty of hands-on inspecting. There is also the opportunity to bring your own harness and helmet along and receive advice on the state of your kit (no pressure and we don’t judge!).

Overview

The cavers kit checks workshop will have a short theory element but will be mostly hands-on practical inspecting. Participants will be shown how to inspect common caving kit and given example items to inspect themselves. The exact equipment types used on the course will vary, but will include;

  • SRT harnesses & belts
  • Helmets
  • Connectors
  • Ascenders & Descenders
  • Ropes
  • Slings

We can also run a bespoke version of this workshop on demand for caving clubs. Get in touch to talk dates and content.

The workshop will cover:

  • The importance of checking kit regularly
  • Inspection method
  • Common wear and damage
  • Practical inspection of lots of kit
