Rock Adventure

Take to the hills for a Rock Adventure on & under the hills of the Peak District. Visiting one of the stunning local gritstone escarpments, you’ll be led on a journey that will take you scrambling up, crawling under & wriggling through the landscape.

Rock Adventure

This 2 hour activity will be spent on the go, so travel light and prepare to get mucky! Using the amazing natural boulder fields of the Peak District moors, you’ll be led through a series of challenges that involve crawling under, scrambling over and (if you want to) squeezing through the rocks. Weaseling is the local name for exploring the boulders of the Dark Peak. The activity is a mix of short scrambles through rugged terrain, balance and coordination challenges and passing through various tunnels and holes. The holes vary from stooping to flat out wriggles, but each challenge is optional as you make your way round with the experienced and friendly instructor.

This activity would suit family groups, individuals and other small parties wanting to try something different. It is hard to describe the fun of weaseling unless you have experienced it yourself. You can choose to push yourself as far as you like with a no pressure but supportive approach from our instructor. Each challenge can be bypassed and no one will need to do anything they are not comfortable with, the choice will be yours. This activity is very much on the go and the time will soon fly by. This activity can be enjoyed by anyone 10 years old or above, and you don’t need any previous experience.

Overview
Making use of one of the Peak District’s gritstone edges, participants will be led on a journey over, under and through the rocks. The activity is a mix of bouldering and weaseling, which is low level scrambling and moving around between and under the boulders. The activity does involve some crawling and even a bit of tighter wriggling for those that choose to push their boundaries, but all challenges are optional. You may get dirty and wet on this activity. Old clothing is a very good idea!
Participant Suitability
No prior experience is needed. Average fitness levels are all that is required. The site is predominantly rough, wild moorland with some short but very steep sections to walk up and down which can become muddy. You will need to walk around 1km over the whole experience, but this broken up into small sections. Anyone 10 years old and above can take part in this activity. Parents of younger children can contact us for a chat about bringing younger kids along.
Included in the cost

Your group will have its own instructor.
We always endeavour to bring one of our cameras along to our activities (subject to breakages etc..). Photos are provided free of charge when they are taken by us.

Please bring clothing suitable for the day’s weather forecast and make sure you have full length trousers and a long sleeved top to protect against scratches, midges, brambles and nettles.
A hair tie for long hair is a good idea.
In hot weather, bringing a bottle of water is a good idea.
Accessibility
The site is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible throughout, so we would class this activity as unsuitable for those who are wheelchair dependant. We can sometimes accommodate individuals with mobility issues or other physical conditions on this activity, but we would like to have a conversation with you prior to booking. Sadly it is not always possible to accommodate people on the Rock Adventure sessions due to the terrain of the site, but we might be able to arrange a bespoke activity for you.
Other
Sorry but dogs are not permitted on this activity.
The challenges are all optional and if you don’t wish to do one there will be no pressure from our staff team. In that circumstance, you can easily bypass the challenge and watch.
All under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying parent. Spectators are not allowed unless they have paid for a slot on the activity. As a rule, this means that participating children must be accompanied by a paying, participating parent.
